We
went to a speech by Tim O’Brien yesterday. I did not know him, but Brock said
that “He is a famous writer,” so I wanted hear his speech.
When
we arrived there, many people already arrived. They waited for him to come. When
he stood on the platform, the hall resounded with clapping of the audience. I
could not understand his speech. However, his speech was very strong, smooth,
and short. I felt his speech was good. He probably talked about his book and
his life. He said “I am a writer. However, I am a storyteller”. Many people
laughed or bobbed their heads in approval to his story. I wanted to understand
his speech. It was probably an interesting speech.
After
his speech, many people asked him questions. It was a surprising thing. It is just
because the Japanese audience is very quiet compared to the American audience.
