Blog Assignment #67 by Tsukina

I really wanted to learn American culture and wented to learn English grammar. When I live in Japan, I loved America, because America is attractive. For example everything is colorful and pop. I love there things. But it was just my image maybe these are different from my image I think. Some my images were different from real, but almost all my images are real. I can find these point because I live in America.
Also my English grammar was so bad, because I didn't study hard. Also I didn't know how to study English. After I came here, I have studied basics English grammar. My English class helped my English grammar also. My goal is to study correct English grammar and become good English speaker. I am not good English speaker yet. So I have to study English more and more.

Blog assignment #67 by Ayana

Hello. I want to write about my two challenges which I had to overcome this semester. I try to talk with other people who does not know about him. I think most of Japanese is to be afraid of strangers. I am a person whom it is easy for to become bashful in front of strangers. I try to read the paper which is written in English. I like to read in English. I am not like to read English. It was so different from Japanese. Kanji is easy to suggest to relate a meaning of a word to a word of an unknown meaning. I sometimes strain the meaning of a word. I think that it is important to guess the meaning of unknown words from the context. I had a great time here. I will never forget what happen here. I want to keep it in my mind.

Blog Assignment #67 by Kanae

Today, I’m going to write about two challenges that I had to overcome this semester.
Firstly, I had to understand English. I came to America to learn English and to know American culture. I’m the worst at English, so I want to develop my English ability while I’m in America. I was able to accomplish it a little. I think that I’m able to understand English better in comparison with I had just come to America.
Secondly, I had to get over being shy. Many Japanese are shy. Of course I’m shy, too. I thought that I talked to many people, because I get over being shy. However, I’m still shy. I’m told a lot that I’m shy. It was hard to talk to many people for me, but I was able to talk with some people, so I had some new friends at UAFS. It’s pleasant to talk with people who isn’t Japanese! It was very interesting to felt the difference with Jaoanese. I was able to enjoy this semester very much!

Blog assignment #67 by Akari

I think I'm not shy in Japan but I'm shy in America. American people are not shy so they speak a lot and they speak loud voice. So I think my challenge is speaking English more. I hadn't my roommate so I hadn't more opportunity than other international students. But I made friends at cab camp so I should have talked many times!
I also have to study English grammar and vocabulary. I can't speak English well because I haven't confidence. So I have to study English more and I want to have confidence. I I studied English slang this semester so it become my part of confidence. I want to study more.
I went to the church on Sunday last weekend. This was my first time to visit the church. I didn't know the church is near here so I wanted to go to the church more! Because the church is good place to learn American culture,English, and conversation. People who visit the church are very kind so I could talk many things.

Blog Assignment #67 by Sai

I am going to write about my challenges. I was shy when I came in the America, but I thought that I became not shy. I thought that I became talk a lot. I was silent in japan. I seldom talk myself in japan. I have some friends in university. I hear the talk in many cases. However, I couldn’t hear the talk someone, because I could not understand the talk. So, many people asked some question for me, then I have to answer question. There are many opportunity since I answered for question. I thought I became not shy. And, I became laud voice when I talk with people. I was small voice when I talk or announce something, but American were very big voice when we talk. In cafeteria, there are many American were big voice to talk. We couldn’t hear the talk, sometimes. I thought I overcome two my challenges.

The kimono is the representative traditional costume of Japan. But, we wear yukata. The kimono is so heavy to carry here. It cannot dance when we wear it. That cloth is too thick. I ate many things. Heather teach us English grammar and American history. It’s very interesting, because I like American history! In addition, it’s pleasant that we’re able to see historical movies! The other side, I’m not good at English grammar. This teaching was different from Japan. It was difficult for me, but it was good! We are able to learn American culture in Carly’s class. I’m able to know America which I didn’t know. I’m really glad that knowledge about America increases!

Hello, I want to write about what did I learn the best thing you've learned in my class at UAFS. I spend time about four months. I think it was a short time that I had thought. I want to stay longer if I could. I didn't know about the class which was held in America has a many dictation. At the first time, it was so hard for me. Most of Japanese people don't like discussing. Most of people don't like to say own opinion in the public. I thought that we did not have to discussion, because I live in Japan. But it is wrong. In the future, I think there is many situations which we have to say own opinion in the public. I think it is the biggest gift for me. And I always want to be with a smile. I want to keep it in my mind.

Blog Assignment #65 by Tsukina

The English grammar class's teaching is defferent from Japan. I hadn't known about name of English grammar. For example, passive and infinitive. I didn't know in English. So, the English grammar that in my herd Wes changed. I learned new grammar vocabularies with new grammar. It was difficult but I think it's good way to learn English. Native speakers use a little complicated grammar for Japanese. One day, my teacher taught us. The grammar was strange for me. However, I could know it's the different way to say between American and Japanese. So it changed like, interesting.
Also at a conversation class, I learned difference between America and Japan. I don't know how to explain, but it's interesting for me. Even we are same human being, we have different culture and opinions.

I love spending time in the middle of Mother Nature. I think that I will participate in the hiking.

Blog Assignment #63 by Ayaka

I will talk about compared to the first day I came here.I don't know about Arkansas before I came here. I felt Arkansas is very interesting.Maybe all states of United States are interesting for me,because American culture is very different from Japanese culture.I felt UAFS is cool.In Japan,my university is small than UAFS.I was surprised that distance to walk from Lion's den to the classroom.I like large campus.I thought American university is freedom. They come to the school by car, they move by skateboard on campus. The first day,I almost couldn't understand what did they say...I thought maybe I can't live here.but I became able to hear simple English.I learned some slang.I was glad that I could understand a meaning of the slang when I talked with American.I still can't get good results on the English test, but I felt I learned a lot of wards, culture, and others.so I enjoyed every day.

Blog Assignment #63 by Sai

I am going to write about English. I know that English is one of the easiest language in the world. I had learned English since I was a 5th grade in elementaly school. I was not good at English. However, I liked to learn English. I think that it s difficult for me to learn someone's said. It was very hard when I just came in the U.S. I couldn't understood even parts of conversation. I was very tired when I joined cab camp, but I was used in a situation. I learned about communication. I thought that it is possible for us to communication without conversation. However, it is very hard. I prefer to use English. I thought my English is better then when I came here. I could tell that I want to tell. I have an ability to express what I want to say. I think that I want to develop my English.

Blog Assignment #63 by Ayana

Hello, I want to write about my English skills. Last mounts we took a TOFEL test. Is was hard for me. One of my friends had taken about the same test. He is good ah English. But he told me. It was so hard. I want to get a better score. I don't know that my English skill is improving or not. I hope it improves. At first, I was worried about speaking to people in English. I can speak English now. Of course, it was not perfect English, but I can speak in loud a voice. I was afraid of reading a long sentence which is written in English. I am not afraid of it anymore. I want to stay here longer. I think that I had just started from studying English when I came here. I want to visit America in the future. I really want to do it.

Blog Assignment #63 by Tsukina

I think my English skill is improving, because I met my roomies first time, I couldn't speak than now. Also, listening skill is improving. I was surprised at my English listening skill when I came here first. I couldn't understand anything. However, now, I can understand what they say, but it takes time to understand completely. So I need more English listening skill also understand earlier.
My first impression of UAFS was big. Because my University in Japan is not big. Also there are no famous monument. But here, it has bell tower as symbol. Also I was surprised at Arkansas English intonations. I had never herd about "a" intonation. First I hard that, I didn't understand. I don't know it's defferent intonation. I couldn't realize these difference if I would'nt come here.

Blog Assignment #63 by Kanae

We have to return to Japan in a few weeks. Three months passed by fast. I had longed to go to America, so when I came to Arkansas for the first time, I was very impressed. At first, the people of Arkansas greeted us with a smile at an airport, and a smell was different from Japan when I went out of an airport. Moreover, Cars drive on the right side of the road, and the driver’s seat was the left side. When I watched scenery from a car, there was nothing! I felt that America is very large. I wasn’t able to hear English well.

Now, I like Arkansas and UAFS. The people of Arkansas are very kind. I feel relaxed when I’m here. When I came here, I thought that same thing. I became able to hear English than the first time, but I still find it difficult. So I have to study English more!

Blog assignment #63 by Akari

I think languages are interesting. We are the same human but we can't understand each language. If I say sarcasm in here, nobody can understand what I say. It's mysterious. I think UAFS is good place but there is nothing to go weekend. I think English speaking skills are better than before I came to America. But my English listening skills are worse than before I came to the America. I forgot how to listen to English. So I think i can't understand English now. I'm also afraid of using English. I can't understand why. But I like my teachers and tutors. I wanna speak with more American people. I have to study English hard. I wanna born in the place which people speak English. If I born there,I don't have to study English.

For example, a tortilla rolled cupped around a filling, tostadas with avocado and shrimp, a sandwich in which the filling is rolled up in a soft tortilla, tortilla with meat filling baked in tomato sauce seasoned with chili and a flat tortilla topped with refried bean. Especially I like a taco consists of various fillings in a tortilla, a flat bread made from finely ground corn. I did not know that difference between tortilla chips and nacho. Tortilla chips are called nacho in Japan. I couldn't understand the word "Tortilla". I had never heard about it. I am happy to eat tacos. Mexican food is a common food in here. I want to eat more American food and Mexican food. I want to make it when I back to Japan.

I think ikameshi is interesting food. Ika is like a octopus. There is taste rice in the ika. It's very delicious. I love it. I think fresh flies also interesting food. Fresh fries are made by potato. But fresh flies form is not potato s form. It's skinny and long. I can't understand why Macdonald s fresh flies are very skinny. I love fresh flies. In Japanese Macdonald ,sometimes sell fresh flies 1.5 doll every size. Si I often ate fresh flies s L size after the brass band club. Fresh flies make me fat. So I don't want to eat fresh flies but it's very good and I love it so I often eat fresh flies. Nachos is interesting food I think. Because snack became main dish. It's sous on the potato chips. Potato chips isn't maindish but only sous power, it become maindish. I'm interested in many foods.

Today, I’m going to write about the strangest food I’ve ever eaten. I’m not able to forget this food. The food name is “Yushi Dofu.” Yushi Dofu is tofu of Okinawa, Japan. Tofu is made by coagulating soy milk. It is a component in East Asian and Southeast Asian cuisines. Generally, tofu is pressing the resulting curds into soft white blocks. However Yushi Dofu isn’t pressing, so it is soft. I went to Okinawa in high school for a school trip. So I ate it for first time when I was a high school student. The food gave me a great shock, because this soft food was tofu! In addition, it was delicious! The texture of the tofu was strange, but it became the habit! I ate the tofu during a school trip many times. I want to eat it again! I like food of Okinawa, so I want to go to Okinawa!!

I have done bad experience when I came U.S. For example, I couldn't understand my American friends  English, but I said "yes" then, I couldn't do anything. My friends was confusing. I should have said "I don't understand." But I couldn't say that. From this experience I learned that if I don't understand anything, I need to ask. Also I talk in incorrect English. However I think it's good for me. Before I came U.S, I didn't talk with foreigners because my English was so bad and I knew my English can't understand for anybody. That's why I didn't talk with foreigners. But, I decided to talk a lots even my English is bad. I hoped my English is getting good. I came here, I talk with my friends with my incorrect English. But I can learn many things. For example, if I said something incorrect, my friends fix it. Then, I can speak correct English. First time, I was embarrassed. But it was good experience for me.

Today, I’m going to write about having learned from a bad experience. When I was an elementary school student, I liked playing outside in break time. So I always played the playground equipment in school grounds. I played with my friends as always on that day. We decided to play at a giant stride. While my friends turned a giant stride, I intended to jump onto it. However, I failed. I was thrown up onto the ground. Therefore, I injured my lip, and I had stitches for my lip. I troubled my friends who played together. I troubled teachers and my family, too. The giant stride was removed, so we were sad. I learned that I must not do the absurd thing from this experience. In addition, I must not get carried away. I needed power to expect.
The trace which a doctor sewed up of my lip is still left. I think that it doesn’t disappear throughout my life. I was a fool. I never jump onto a giant stride.

Hello, I want to write about a moral lesson what I learned from a bad experience. It is a language barrier. I hope he can overcome the language barrier. I think we can in spite of the language difficulty, we soon become friends. We have some of foreign friends, she always speaks in English. Her mother language is not English. We talked in English. I believe we can reach beyond language and cultural barriers and national borders if we really care for others. Some of people spoke in mother language. I couldn't understand what are they said. It was acting rude. So, I decide that I try to speak only English when I stay in here. In public, some of people hate foreign people. That is a horrible bias. Some of people do to deride or those with taunting words. I dislike that. I want to communicate with all the people.

Almost everyone are better than me so teacher and instructor always angry to me. I  deeply regretted so I practiced playing the sax very hard. We have a special ansanble contest every winter so we auditioned the every player. I won the audition both when I was a first grade and second grade. I was happy to see everyone's face looked like regrettable. At the finally I became the best sax player in the club. I thought it was good for me to be scold by teacher. Second story,my elementary school and junior high school was a bit wild and bulling many people. I saw many students was hard. But I couldn't do anything. On the contrary, I was cruel too. I regretted about that so I never do what I don't wanna do by someone.
